The UK Fashion DEI Report

The British Fashion Council, The Outsiders Perspective and the (Fashion) Minority Report together with the support of knowledge partner McKinsey & Company have brought together a wealth of industry expertise to create the inaugural UK Fashion DEI Report 2024. The report released on 23rd January 2024, is a first-of-its-kind review of the state of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the UK fashion industry based upon the findings from The UK Fashion DEI Census and other new data sets. The report sets out in-depth findings and showcases great examples to enable companies to achieve meaningful progress and help grow the UK economy.

The report examines the current state of DEI in the UK fashion industry and identifies a dual reality; despite a demonstrable positive shift in fashion’s public-facing persona, the sector has more it can achieve through diversifying its corporate representation, including executive positions. The report reveals the intrinsic link between leadership diversity and company performance – and sets out a business case with measurable levers to help accelerate widespread industry improvements and talent recruitment and retention strategies.

3 STRATEGIC LEVERS

The report sets out 3 strategic levers for immediate and long-term effect, each with a robust list of best practices for getting started. These levers create an ongoing, circular system that leads to a report recommendation for businesses to set their ambitions for progress built in as measures to their business strategy.
